SPORTS

Alas, sixth-grade students are not allowed to participate in sports.  However, they may try out to be a team manager.  Details on becoming a team manager are given out via the Daily Newscast.  If your child is interested in being a team manager for a certain sport, let them know to keep their ears open and listen to the announcements.

If a student is interested in being a part of one of Riverwood Middle's sports teams in the seventh or eighth grades, the student needs to remember that they must have a "77" or better average in their classes to play.

ALL THINGS MUSIC

Is your child musically inclined? If you would like your child to be in band, you need to contact Mr. Hingley.

CLUBS

There are some clubs a sixth grader might find interesting.  Peruse the list and see if any strike your fancy.  Please be reminded that for some clubs, like Battle of the Books and Mathcounts, there may be entrance requirements.

Art Club

Our wonderful art teacher meets with students who are of a creative-minded persuasion.  They create beautiful and interesting works of art.  See Mr. Tom Schappert for more details.

Battle of the Books

Like to read?  Remember a lot of details?  Battle of the Books might be a good place for you!  In this club, students read around twenty or so books, and then go to a competition in which all the middle schools in Johnston County compete.  The team that prepares the best wins the trophy!  See Mrs. Sarah Lee for more details.

In order to be eligible for the Battle of the Books team, you will need to pass a quiz on the books in the Fall.  So, get started reading!  Click the picture below to view the current booklist!

Math Counts

A lot like Battle of the Books, but for those who like math.  Students who excel in this academic subject practice math concepts and compete in a county-wide competition to win a trophy and bragging rights.  See Mrs. Meg Crissman for more details.

Science Olympiad

Maybe you don't like to read and math makes you cross-eyed?  Science Olympiad might be the place for you.  Students take scientific principles and apply them in this club.  They also compete in a county-wide competition for bragging rights and glory!  See your child's science teacher for details.
